and also!!!
rue's drug addiction is practically a b plot in s2, because almost everything about her was focused on jules or jules/elliot (and im not a rules hater in fact i love them to death <3 but theyre both their own people and we should be allowed to see that) and the best episode of the ENTIRE SEASON was the single episode that focused entirely on rue and let zendaya act and it was sooo good !!
they completely disregarded the nate/jules plot (dont ship them thats gross), in favor of jules/elliot and nate/cassie, when their (jules/nate) story wasnt even kind of wrapped up or given any kind of closure, they just moved on cus they wanted more sex montages ? ig
lexi (imo) was totally suppoed to be a lesbian in s1 and in love with rue (their kiss scene, willing to do literally anything for her, the 'i think shes in love wit her' scene) and then in s2 not only do they give lexi a random comphet bf, but she just DOESNT INTERACT WITH RUE ALMOST THE ENTIRE SEASON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HER SELF TITLED BEST FRIEND AND THERE IS ALMOST NO INTERACTION BETWEEN THEM THE ENTIRE SEASON
season one was good, and they had so many interesting plot threads, but they completely removed/disregarded those in favor of boobs and dick montages and weird random relationships that make no actual sense.
something that bothers me so much about euphoria season 2 vs season 1, is that season one while it strayed from the plot quite a bit, it had a clear plot and a clear idea and it all seemed like it had been written before two days ago. and then you go into season 2 and it's like,,, what the fuck????
because they completely ignored kat, and ik it's because of off screen stuff, but still. lexi's whole plot line changed, cassie and nate ??? ? ?? ? ? ? ? ?? ?and the whole jules and nate plot just vanished and was replaced by jules/rue/elliot love triangle when jules just was coming to terms with the fact that shes a lesbian.
it's just so obvious that s*m got wayy too caught up in the glam and 'aesthetic' of euphoria that he forgot what his own damn show was about and it drives me a little crazy. the stuff in season one that was good was SOO good, and then almost all of that was dropped in s2 in favor of two boring ass love triangles and an unplanned poorly written season plot.
#tw drug addiction#mention#its about euphoria#i just#i just think that this show had a lot of potential#and the actors all play their parts well imo#but then they ignore all the things that THEY SET UP#in favor of creepy hypersexualization of literally ALL the women who go on the sets#and like#i dont even wanna know what happens#or wathc it now#which is so sad to me

Can I ask why you like Fernando? Is it the chaos?
you can't deny that the chaos is entertaining lol. some of it is that 2006 was the first year of f1 that i watched live, and fernando was both the reigning world champion and that year's champion, and it was through watching him that i really fell in love with the sport (i had watched some of the older seasons but there's something different about watching it live imo). i also met him that year and he was very nice to me so i can't deny that's a part of it. but mostly i find him fascinating.
fernando is such a contradiction. he is incredibly open about the fact that he is actually incredibly private. for as long as he's raced, he's been open about the fact that who he is on the track and in front of the camera, camp and evil and scheming etc., is not who he is in private. and everyone who's close to him, pedro de la rosa, carlos sainz (both of them), mark webber, they all say that outside of f1 fernando is completely different to the personality you see on track. he's quiet and a bit shy, nothing like the shakespearean villain he is for the cameras.
he keeps his two lives incredibly separate. his family rarely come to races (although that might be because he's superstitious and has said that they brought him bad luck) but he's incredibly close to them outside of work. for all the bridges he's burned and relationships he's damaged in his professional life, he's able to maintain good relationships in his personal life. some of his friends from when he was a child are still close friends with him now. he's on good terms with most of his exes, even his ex-wife (and he actually dates women his own age which is nice).
there's a clip of him from the last season of dts, where he says that in racing, in f1, there are good guys and bad guys, and he is on the dark side, and i think that's one of the things that makes fernando so interesting. he understands the genre. one of the fundamental facets of the theatre and acting in general is the suspension of belief. when you go to see a play or a musical or a film you accept the terms of that universe. in the theatre it's fine that people break into song to express themselves, even though it would be insane to do that in real life. you accept that those four people moving a puppet are a lion or a tiger or a dragon. that wicker basket that was a wardrobe? it's a carriage now, or a seat on a train. and you accept it because that's part of the genre.
fernando alonso is a piece of theatre and fernando is character, actor and director all at once. he understands that it is a performance, and that if you perform well enough, if you are engaging enough, funny enough, talented enough, you don't have to be the hero. you can be ruthless and cruel and manipulative, you can cheat and lie and then lie about cheating, but if you have the audience on side, you can get away with anything. everyone loves a good villain after all.
and i think that understanding is why fernando does what he does. he doesn't think anything of blackmailing and psychologically torturing his boss and then showing up at mclaren again less than a decade later because to him it's part of the show. and because he's as talented as he is people beg him to do just that.
he is a fiction and yet completely real. he lies all the time, but is so honest about the fact that he lies. there is no one else like him

Suddenly remembered something I wanted to say re:Akechi, because I think it's really core to his character (at least the way I interpreted him?) and I feel like it explains a lot of his contradictions. Essentially, he is incapable of seeing himself as just a person - he's either the greatest hero/detective ever, or he's some violent monster, and it's like there's no in-between. It's very in keeping with his obvious superiority-inferiority complex, but it goes deeper than that too; when he's in a role, it seems like his self-perception kind of changes too depending on how he is perceived by others. He really does get a confidence boost from being the Detective Prince. He really does shut down emotionally as the Black Mask.
They're masks that he's made, and it's not that aspects of them aren't based in truth to some extent, but I think it goes to show why he's not actually that fantastic a liar (imo, I found the outright lies pretty obvious), but he is a very good actor. He's either an angel or a demon, and never a person, but there are conditions to that. He is an angel when he is perfect - to society. He is a demon when he is vengeful - again, to society. He is never a person, because he never was seen as one - to society. He was disregarded. To be anything of value or notoriety, whether that's hero or villain, he has to be wildly more or less than who he actually is, and he's been building these masks up for so long that I really think he lost sight of the actual person behind it all. And I don't think he wanted to see that person anyways, because that person "wasn't good enough" and I do think he'd rather be anything other than himself. That trickery, that deflection from the person within, in itself brings him pride and satisfaction. He wants to be loved and needed instead of being cast aside, but I also think that if he can't have that then he'd much rather be hated than never have mattered at all. He weaponizes his own loneliness - if he can't ever be accepted then he'll build his own pedestal apart from everyone else.
It's so fascinating too, because I just wonder how much of this he was consciously aware of pre, during, and post engine room. There's this recurring thing with him where he goes "I can only be myself" etc but I just want to shake him because, well, who is that, Akechi??? Or, who do you think that is? Do you actually have an answer? Is it predicated on your actual feelings or solely on your success at fooling everyone around you? Is there any part of you that you actually like that isn't based on a painstakingly constructed mask? Isn't it all mostly lies to deflect from the truth? Isn't it all founded mostly on truth, nonetheless?
It drives me insane. And I think this is a big reason why he breaks so hard in the engine room, because so much of his mask requires his "audience" to perform in a particular way. And here he is, and the Thieves have beaten him, so there goes the first mask, because he's no longer "perfect". He swings wildly into the ugliest sides of him, but this mask is broken too, amidst him vehemently and desperately denying that he has any other emotions than hatred and rage, or any other needs or desires than vengeance. And after that, it's just him. And they should reject him, right? That's what happens. He's not useful, he's not needed or perfect, his hands are stained with blood. But the Thieves, again, don't play the role he expects them to. They, despite everything, relate to him - because he is in fact very similar in a lot of ways and they acknowledge him as a person - not a hero, or idol, or villain, or tool, or unwanted child - but as a damaged teen like the rest of them. And he does not know what to do with that. His identity is intrinsically dependent on getting the right reactions from other people as a form of ingratiating himself - if he does not get that reciprocal reaction he's looking for, his act falters, and, I really do believe that so does his self-perception. That's why you see different aspects of him seep out when he's spending time with Joker, because Joker does not react the way he expects, and Akechi both does and does not like this, because it leaves him feeling both intrigued and vulnerable.
I do think this particular aspect of his character is something a lot of the Thieves don't fully grasp - certainly, I think Joker "I need the mask" Persona 5 understands to a degree, but the sheer degree of reliance and the level of pride attached to it is something that confuses him a little, I think, especially in Mementos Mission. I think the thief that comes closest is actually Morgana, who has a similar superiority-inferiority complex and a desperate need to be seen as competent and useful lest he be discarded. (This is a big part of why the rather lackluster writing with Morgana's arc frustrates me so much because I really do feel it was meant to be contrasted with Akechi's, but I digress.) Morgana is the one to make that emotional appeal to Akechi, which makes a degree of sense - Morgana struggled all along with finding a place in the world. His form leads others to underestimate him; he visually doesn't fit in. He's acting out the role of a chivalrous and cool phantom thief but is more pragmatic with how he views relationships, at least at first. He wants a place to belong where he is appreciated more than anything but his pride won't let him spit it out. Accepting that he belongs and that he is loved even if he really did have nothing of value to provide is a big part of the resolution of his arc. He tries to offer that learned lesson to Akechi in turn ("Follow your true feelings. Even if you think people hate you, or don't want you around-"), but Akechi just wasn't in the right space to listen. There's also an important distinction between the two - Morgana envies humans and looks up to them. Akechi envies humans and looks down on them. Morgana is perfectly happy once he is assured a place amongst the group, but Akechi see-saws wildly between wanting to belong and wanting to be a step above the rest and separating himself further. So while Morgana actually really did cut to the core of the issue, his appeal would never have worked at this point because a) Akechi's pride is dependent on him maintaining his solo act, and b) he just got outed as not actually hating Joker in front of seven other people including Joker himself lmao.
So, uh, sorry, Morgana. Points for trying.
#oh no this got long again hfdsjfshbf#anyways i do have more akechi thoughts wrt parallels with other characters but i think i should stop bc i keep talking about him#and it's probably annoying#also i should probably wait to see what he's like in third semester because it seems like he's taking a lead role here#and he's definitely changed so i'm curious to see who he is now#storyrambles#does this even make sense. idk.#what a fascinating character. i can't stand him. i hope he gets lovingly dunked on for the rest of time.#story plays persona 5#p5r#goro akechi#p5 meta#p5 morgana#call me ace detective the way i am ace. and also a detective.#<-i feel the need to clarify on any post involving akechi that this is my standard analysis tag that has nothing to do with him#i am not a kinnie i don't think i could take that

hi there i hope you don't mind me asking for recs! this might be a bit too specific but do you know any (good) bls with age gap? i've only watched old fashion cupcake and minato's laundromat and i'd love to see more of that dynamic. have a good day!
Hi anon! I am delighted to talk about age gap bls with you. A few notes about how I define this:
I think of a true age gap romance as one where the narrative is at least in part driven by the age difference, not one where the characters are just incidentally different ages but it doesn't really matter to the story
The age gap needs to be significant enough that it puts the characters in different phases of life, so something like a college freshman dating a senior doesn't count
I also don't count supernatural stories where there's a massive age gap as a function of one of the characters being immortal, that's a totally different genre and narrative intent IMO
I will only include a show in this list if the age gap is between the main pair or a very significant side pair who has a lot of story time
So this means I would not be including shows like My Tooth Your Love or The New Employee where there is technically an age gap but everyone is adults and it doesn't really matter to the story. Or shows like Cutie Pie and Love in the Air, which do play with power dynamics somewhat based in age but where the actual gap is negligible and the story isn't about their age difference. Or something like Ossan's Love where there is an age gap pairing in contention but it's not actually the core romance of the story. Then there are shows where on paper there is an age gap between the main characters but the production cast actors the same age, so it never actually feels like an age gap story no matter how many times they write in dialogue trying to convince me that 28 year old is 40 (I love you dearly, Moonlight Chicken but please be serious).
So all that said, there are not as many proper age gap bls as you'd think! You'll note that this rec list is dominated by Japan and Taiwan, the absolute rulers of this trope. Productions in these countries love to dig into an uncomfortable taboo, and a true age gap romance fits nicely in that niche. Thailand doesn't play much in this space thanks to their branded pairs system that puts close-in-age actors together (and the couple times they tried large age gap romances were so terrible that I shan't speak of it). Korea has surprisingly done very little on this despite noona romance being one of the most popular kdrama subgenres. Where are all the hyung romances, I ask you??
With all that rambling out of the way, onto the list of age gap bls I recommend checking out.
History 2: Right or Wrong
An under appreciated entry in the HIStory franchise that pairs an overworked single father who is neglecting his parenting duties and the student he hires to help look after his kid.
History 3: Make Our Days Count
These two are technically a side couple, but they get near equal story time to the mains and they are an exemplar of a great age gap romance that gets the character dynamics exactly right to mitigate the uncomfortable power differential when one is an adult and the other is still growing up. My personal favorite age gap bl pair.
History 4: Close To You
This one's for the girls who like to tackle multiple taboos at once. Not only age gap, but also stepbrothers, with a bit of personality disorder thrown in for flare! And somehow with all that mess, they tell the story so well and make you believe. Do not @ me, I said what I said!
Kiseki: Dear to Me
I know many folks remember this show primarily for the side couple, but the mains actually have a very well done age gap romance between a gangster and a high school student he accidentally drags into hell with him. The plot of this show is absolutely not to be taken too seriously, just have fun and go with it!
Lovely Writer
The only Thai bl I think qualifies under the definition above and actually tells its story very well. This one is interesting because you get to see them both as kids and as adults and see how their age difference and its effect on their relationship shifts over time.
Minato's Laundromat
You already mentioned this one, anon, but I'm putting it on this list for posterity. A classic age gap bl with a romance between a repressed older man and the persistent teenager who worships him.
Mr. Mitsuya's Planned Feeding
Winner for most significant age gap in terms of years, this show is about a mid-20s editor who falls for a writer twice his age after meeting him on the job. So much glorious food and sexual tension.
Old Fashion Cupcake
Another one you've already seen going on the list for posterity. A workplace age gap romance with a younger man pursuing his mentor via foodie dates. One of the best Japanese BLs ever made, period.
The Pornographer
A maladjusted (to put it mildly!) man gets hit by a young student on a bicycle, and uses the situation to bring him into his home as a writing assistant. Things get pretty fucked up from there. This is one of my favorites and very under appreciated in part because you have to chase the story across two series, two shorts, and a movie to get the full narrative. Trust me, it's worth it!

Hello again! I recently added subs to the dmmd stage plays (except Ren's! i do not take credit for that). Originally i only had 4 routes, but I received Mink's and ViTri's routes and just finished subbing! (thank you @minkiemoo for sending them to me!!)
They're all updated on the same Google drive that i posted before but I'll repost it here
I hope you all enjoy!! please let me know if I missed anything or if it's not working (I didn't finish subbing the post credit conversations but i wanted to get the rest of the play out there first)
translators notes and general thoughts below if u care
Woo!!!! I'm so happy i got to watch all the routes and I'm very happy to make it easier to consume for English speakers! the game blew up in 2014 on tumblr from a fan translation iirc? so I think it's only fair that I do my part now that I'm at a level of fluency where I can do that too! my goal since i was a kid to be able to watch/play things in jp without subs or translation, and i think i only recently realized i can do that now lol
it has been a very long time since I started learning jpn (i believe in total it has been 18 years on and off 💀 god) and i just wasn't confident in my skills but when i was watching Ren's route (it was the only one available overseas without vpn shit and had subs) and no shade to whoever had to sub Ren's route but i noticed some subs were just straight up wrong? (there's a part where aoba is looking at a screen at toue's speech and it was just all wrong) so i think that coupled with having friends that also like dmmd and wanted to watch the other routes inspired me to do my own damn subs lmao 😂
I'm absolutely not saying my subs are perfect, I'm sure there are spots that aren't 100% accurate (mostly because i can't 100% hear exactly what syllables they're saying sometimes because they talk so fast or just the audio quality or mumbling lol noiz I'm looking at you), but if i was unsure at any point I'd cross check the game lol if anyone notices any point where my subs are inaccurate, please let me know! i take no offense and honestly would love to be corrected so i can know for the future
also lastly, i did wanna touch on my strategy for subbing! jpn and English don't translate very well to each other all the time so there are some things that are said in jp that if i wrote literally in English would feel awkward or be hard to understand, so for some dialogue i tried to convey what they were saying with phrases that would make more sense to an English reader. So if you hear some sentences/words and you're like, wait that's not 100% exactly what they said, there's a good chance I know and i made the choice to translate it differently. it can be really hard to know when to leave something literally translated and when to localize it, or how far you should change the wording even if you keep the important information in a sentence, and which words i can leave out because of how fast they talk😭
jpn is also a very context heavy language, which means they leave out words in a sentence because it's implied that they're still in the sentence but you're supposed to fill them in. so there are many times where it sounds like in jp, they say 2 words, but it could really actually be like 6 because they're assuming you filled in the other 4 words. English you can only really get away with so much not said, and it can feel a bit weird when u read 6 words on the screen but hear the actors say 2 words lmao but just trust me on this, i promise I'm not adding words outta no where😂
one example: when Mizuki is holding a knife to Tae, he says 後悔すんなよ which literally means "don't regret this", but with the full context he's saying something close to "don't regret this because it's gonna be your fault your grandma dies" which obviously is a lot more than what he said and I can't write all that on the screen for 2 seconds. The best equivalent to this (imo) was too write "You'll regret this", because even though it's not what he said in jp, it still gets the point across to english speakers and eng speakers can fill in the blank that he'll regret this because he didn't take Mizuki's threats seriously. It's less words and it's easier to digest in the few seconds that you have to read the sub
anyway i just want it to be known that i put a lot of care into these subs and thought very hard about how I translated each sentence, so i hope that you can trust my work!
Thank you again for all the kind words! I hope you enjoy the plays!!

for the reverse unpopular opinion meme, Worf!
worf is special bc, to me, he is both the funniest and most serious character in ds9, without particularly trying to be both. which i think has something to do with the invested expression of his cultures and all the values he means to represent. sometimes these characteristics are played for the pathos---the intense empathetic feeling you get when you watch him do and say things that fit in a specific heroic poetic. other times it's played for the humor, his honorable presentation in an honorable fight leading him to say things a little out of context, like "death to the opposition" in a baseball game.
but for all the ways he's a character that comments on how one can perform respect for one's self and multiplicities of loyalty, how cultural values of "heroism" might clash with others, how quite often one's acts are a choice--depending on how aware one is of why they are acting a certain way and what they want to project with their actions, the best part of worf is that he really is sincere.
i've compared worf to kira before and i think that's the thing they have in common and why both those characters work so well with characters like dax--the contrast of a loudly resolved person against a willingly variable one. worf and dax are so interesting in their scenes together because this contrast is true of them but they also interrogate that which is surface-level in each other: worf sees in dax someone who can and will commit in many (often brave) ways, and dax sees in worf a breadth of contradictory feeling and expansive experience. many of their fights as characters is refusing to acknowledge they know this about each other--even expect it.
so my favorite part of worf's character (his sincerity) is showcased in my favorite narrative for worf--the fact that he really does spend all of season 7 grieving his wife. he loved her deeply and does not back away from still feeling it, no matter the hurt. and it feels so appropriate to what these characters were to each other, in the story, and it leads to the best exchange possibly in ds9:
WORF: Perhaps not, but I am certain that you will do whatever is necessary to complete your task. EZRI: And how do you know that? WORF: You are Dax. It is your way.
worf is the kind of character that is meant to hold up some sense of resolve in a show and genre that is all about the anxieties of uncertainty. worf, of course, faces a lot of uncertainty and personal struggles (and probably it's the sort of thing that gets more focus in the next generation, which i haven't seen yet, than in ds9), but his ethic purpose among the cast of characters is to be more sure than not--not by means of arrogance but by means of choice.
other characters like this i feel are generally cast as the leaders/captains of the crew, but the difference between a character like janeway or kirk and a character like worf is that worf is not "sure" out of an obvious external pressure to choose but out of internal impulse to be. he is who he strives to be through his striving. he sometimes does and says the funniest things in the show because he doesn't bend to unspoken social demands of propriety, no matter if he senses these demands or not. and he doesn't feel the need to explain himself which makes his one-liners all the funnier. and it's so easy to see why ursula k le guin was obsessed with him.
would like to conclude the gushing by just saying that michael dorn is extraordinary as an actor imo: he has so much makeup on for the character, normally the most out of everyone in any one scene he's in, and still he turns in a Performance, implying so much interiority and perspective, making even worf's most judgy moments inherently fascinating in their distinct and unmistakable personhood.
#worf#star trek#ds9#thanks for the ask!#not sure i would've said as much about worf without the prompting but clearly i care about the dude a lot lol

Thinking about Actual Play series and how there are 4 parts that IMO determine if people will want to listen to it.
1. High Concept: this is what the show is about narratively. Setting, plot, characters, themes, all the stuff you'd find in written fiction.
2. Performance: how compelling are the actors involved in the show? Are there suitably funny voices? Do they all have good chemistry? Is there buy in to the High Concept? And so on.
3. Production Quality: Bad mics and poor volume balancing between players can easily take some listeners out of the story. Some of this can be fixed in post, but it's always better to start with the best raw audio you can. That's the baseline stuff but some shows also add music (whether as theme songs or for ambience) and sound effects.
4. The Rules: the most unique part of Actual Play as a format. What rule system are the performers using to inform their performances? The rules place limits on how well the High Concept functions. If you try to tell a story where all the characters are super heroes but you're using Delta Green, there's going to be some friction (which of course could be the basis of the High Concept but absolutely needs to be accounted for).
Different listeners will have different priorities for each of these, and even within them. Really liking one of these aspects within a show may allow a less enjoyable one to get a pass.
For example The Adventure Zone's Balance season is something I listened to every week. I do not give a single shit about D&D actual play and am pretty ambivalent on the High Concept but the audio quality is great and the performances are stellar.
Another example: Friends At The Table's Autumn In Hieron has frequently bad audio quality but the great High Concept of the two diverging parties and the setting, combined with the good performances makes it stand out. Also doesn't hurt that I was interested in Dungeon World.
I don't think I'm saying anything groundbreaking here, but it may be useful for those interested in actual play, fans AND creators, to consider when starting a new show.

As callum is double the size of Austin and quite a bit taller, how do you think this affected the way bucky and buck were portrayed on screen? I know there's also a lot of physicality in acting and I found it interesting that in certain scenes - like when they're fighting with the British at the table, or at that party where bucky has a tense moment with his superior, or when bucky gets up and starts singing - that he seems like someone buck can be quiet behind, he can watch him go and be amazed/amused at what he might do and whilst all the noise happens around bucky remain in his own seemingly preffered quietnes. Buck also watches bucky a lot too, like he is as intrigued with this larger than life character as we are - until he needs to step in lmao.
Not to say a smaller person can't be formidable, after all I think callum is distinctly bigger than the real life Eagen, but for Apples interpretation of MOTA it fits that bucky is this bull of man. It makes the moments -like that super tense moment when crank says 'the people we're bombing didn't shoot down buck' or when Bucky walks into the bar after bucks been shot down and tells everyone they don't have to guess why he's come back and slaps a bill down, or when he won't give that nazi anything but his number - all the more tangible for us watching at home.
The use of callums size is very, very wonderfully executed imo and kudos to callum and the directors for that because I think it can be so easy to end up being a caricature of some tough guy JUST because of size as opposed to being tough in spite of it, that's the balance of physical acting imo you can shoe horn any buff actor into a role but it's how secondary his size is to Buckys rage of emotions that makes it impactful, it's wielded like an accessory to an already formidable character.
I also think it shows in callum and austins friendship like Austin in their interveiws is very content often to simply relax and laugh and watch and listen, he said they're cut from the same cloth and callum said their personalties are similar to buck and buckys I.e. introvert and extrovert but they're kindred spirits. - sorry this was long but I find the art of acting so fascinating when it's done well. And the phycality of buck and bucky is to me really well done and an important part of how they understand each other
Callum is only 2 inches taller than Austin! He's just....big. he's just broad. Austin is much more trim and it makes the difference look extreme but they are in fact very similar in height!
I think from what we know the real John Egan had a very similar bombastic personality lmao. I don't think they were really factoring in Callums height or size into the casting so much as his physicality. He plays the cocky self assured pilot so well. and one thing we know about John Egan was that he was one cocksure motherfucker
^ his POW with a very cocky popped collar.
I do agree that Callum injects a lotta physicality into his roles. i can spot him from a few pixels just by the way he walks. I think it's what lends to his charisma on screen but I also think yes it is virtue of being a big guy. he's got a lotta limb and a lotta body of course he's gonna use it in his acting, of course he's someone whos probably grown up being very aware of his size. Bet he bashed those long arms a lot on things before he learned how to control himself lol. I think of course he is quite physically intimidating in scenes where he needs to be and his size lends to it but it's just the simple fact of him being a big guy.
Austin is shy and an introvert and hates talking about himself, but loves talking about things other than himself. and Callum is willing to talk about anything lol. He seems like one of those guys who kinda has a thought on every subject. It's no wonder they mesh well, they're both deeply thoughtful guys and it seems like Callums open personality smooths the path for Austin really well. I doubt they have many awkward silences between them due to Callum being Callum

I think the best indicator of "love" is screen time and development the characters are getting. Aemond is definitely not loved, perhaps not even liked by this team. He was sidelined in s1 after Driftmark as well, the show never explored the aftermath for him, ignored his trauma, barely showed relationship with his mother etc. But in s1 Aemond was still a compelling character who stood on his own, now in s2 they write him like an afterthought, it feels like they would have left him off screen if he wasn't needed for the plot, they don't develop him, but the audience sees him occasionally so people remember he exists. His sole reason to exist is to be a worse version of Daemon who gets the same character traits except for Daemon's depth and interactions.
It really sucks and imo it also hurts Ewan as an actor, because after all the hype and PR he got, people had their expectations only to see that he was heavily sidelined for... literally everyone else. And now people are criticising Ewan's acting, but what is he supposed to do when his appearances are so short and he isn't given any meaty scenes? Like you can't seriously compare Tom and Ewan's material yet people do this and say Ewan is a bad actor. Olivia's sad eyes are constantly on screen, it's getting tiresome and repetitive, but hey, they need her to have a chance at Emmys. Same with Emma and Matt, they'd rather show Daemon walking around for 10 minutes then give Ewan an extra second. The battle of Rooks rest could have been his moment, but no, it's Fabien who gets the spotlight out of the Greens. Anime villains can't show any emotions apparently! Aemond can only appear on screen for 2 minutes per episode max. This is downright disrespectful, HBO used Aemond and Ewan for promo, tricked fans into thinking Aemond will have a prominent role, but the show treats Aemond and Ewan terribly. People on social media say they want to watch HOTD just for Aemond because he looks cool and I almost want to say it's not worth it because he is barely on screen lmao. And the writing is awful. The showrunners and HBO had an iconic character in the making but they're boring morons.
Hello!
I have to agree on the point about the complete and utter disrespect with which HBO and the writers have dealt with Aemond and Ewan this season. Actually, basically all of the characters have been subjected to the exploitative treatment and used to either push the show's agenda in a very crude, dumbed down form or to straight out bait the audience to gain more views. Olivia plays a double part of "a terrible mother"/"a victim of patriarchy" (to make Rhaenyra look better/to hammer home the "women good men bad" point) with a default "I'm about to cry" face (she even kind of joked about it herself during one of the promo interviews). Emma so far has been playing another crying/disrespected/constantly in need of saving or standing up for victim of patriarchy. Matt this season gives a master class in playing the walking collection of psychological issues (and not in a good way) - but he at least has something to actually act out. The latter also goes for Tom though Aegon has been really dumbed down - plus sometimes it feels like his main purpose in the show is to evoke pity in viewers. Phia has been amazing with what she was given but overall storywise Helaena doesn't fare that much better than last season - she is still barely a character. Fabien has been talking a lot about Criston's loyalty to Alicent (and this loyalty was shown to us in season 1) but we have yet to see the actual proof of this loyalty in season 2.
But Aemond IMO takes the cake as far as the disrespect towards the character and the actor is concerned. It really feels like HBO after introducing this character with so much potential for development (and the coolest design to boot) played by a very talented actor with a really powerful screen presence just used Aemond for increasing the show's popularity and selling merch - and after that used Ewan during the promo campaign knowing full well that a lot of people have been intrigued by him and interested in learning more about him. Is it possible that no one at HBO had been aware about the way Condal&Co treated Aemond's storyline and how heavily he was sidelined before the season was released? I don't think so.
Anyway, even if HotD has robbed Ewan of an actual opportunity to fully show his acting abilities, at least it has brought him a certain amount of fame and popularity (including interest in his previous projects). People (directors and studio execs among them) now know who he is and what kind of range he has (based off the way he has been playing Aemond and the way he played his other characters). So, after all, some good has come of it.

I know it's a bitter pill to swallow in this fandom for many reasons but, the phrase "open to interpretation" IS inherently a positive phrase that good creators use to affirm to their audiences that stories and art belong to the fans, and that every fan is able to find their own meaning through their own interpretive lens. It's not up to creators or actors to tell people what something--especially ambiguous or subtextual moments--mean. Everyone will come to a different understanding, some views might be more supported by canon than others, but it's still within every viewer's right to see things how they see them.
All "open to interpretation" means is: you get to interpret it! And you! And you! This is a key tenant of any creative work. It can be interpreted. And that is what literary analysis is all about. You build a case for your interpretation. You go into the text and find supporting evidence for your view, your thesis. And some interpretations are argued better than others. But everyone's still allowed to have their interpretation. (Also, literary analysis is fun).
I say all this because I've seen posts about Jensen going from "open to interpretation" to "clear text" as if he's now against the fact that things can and will be interpreted by fans. In terms of Cas's declaration of love? Yes, that is "clear text." It's romantic in nature, that's not up for debate, and Dean processed and understood it as romantic on the dungeon floor. But for stuff that is still ambiguous, still subtextual in some ways, like Dean's own feelings? Those are still open to interpretation by all sides, whether we like it or not. Until we get to see more of Dean and Cas's story in the basically guaranteed reboot, Jensen is not going to speculate about Dean's feelings or Destiel's reunion. He's never going to word-of-god confirm anything about this on stage at a convention. We have to wait to see it play out on screen.
As an actor, it's also not his place to confirm or deny these things. He leaves it up to the fans to read into his performance whatever they want. And yes, that sentiment IS affirming to a Destiel interpretation. We can read reciprocation into his performance. We can read romantic love into his words about Dean wishing he'd said "I love you back." We can look back on the years of queercoding and subtext and Jacting Joices and read Dean as being in love with Cas for years. And, well, the other side can read what they want into it, and we don't need to care what they think, tbqh.
This, IMO, is also part of the reason Jensen tends to give "vague" answers or use language that can be perceived in different ways by either side. As an actor, at a fan convention where fans of all sides of the fandom have paid to be there to have a good time, it's not his job to personally validate specific headcanons and interpretations. Jensen may have his own personal beliefs about Dean's feelings, but he's not going to divulge them in full if they close off one side's interpretation. So he will weave his way through answers. He will use terms like "brother in arms" which one side will hear as simply "brother" and think "platonic" and Destiel shippers will hear as the full meaning, a strong bond between men, and see the queer history associated with these warrior bonds.
He does this, IMO, to keep all lanes open for every fan, because first and foremost he's an actor at a convention being paid to entertain. He's also not a writer, he's not someone who can definitively say what was intended. Personally, I feel that his metaphor about being in an art gallery that he gave back in 2020 is incredibly apt. People come to the gallery and look at the art and find their own meaning. And the artist isn't standing there beside them confirming or denying their interpretations. That's not the artist's job. Once it's out there, it's for others to find meaning in what the artist made.
And again, it's not his place to speculate or write fanfiction for anyone on stage and personally confirm or deny headcanons. He's pretty adamant about the reboot, so I think for some things we'll just have to wait and see.
#if the man says something is open to interpretation again one day i don't want to see ppl screaming and crying that he's 'walking back'#like no nope! all art is inherently open to interpretation. he's right abt that.#this fandom's personal baggage with that phrase doesn't make it less true#it's a neutral to positive phrase that affirms that fans get to find their own personal meaning in a story or work of art. that's it.#things that have been made textual and defined. such as cas's romantic declaration. those are not up for debate#but other aspects of canon are. whether you like it or not. and personally i love a thesis. i love analysis. so i have fun with it!#vic.txt#fandom vs media literacy#jensen and destiel#long post

Tge thing with Shameless (and most brotish shows like that) is that the actors just look like regular average people. It's part of the charm
No because you're so right. Cover early seasons Noel Fisher in as much filth as you want and put characters in distressed clothes if you like, but it's really not hard to look past that and realise that everybody on Shameless US could be a fucking model.
It's in the framing of it all as well imo – and I really hope this isn't too graphic, and it's getting off the point a bit – but think of how Ian's underage sexual stuff is represented. US!Ian works in a strip club in a golden thong. He admits later on that he's starving himself to fit into it, and he's drugged to the gills, but the lighting and the camera work in the club can be so very flattering. UK!Ian is on his knees for grown men on filthy bathroom tiles, and it's disgusting, and it's uncomfortable to look at and unflatteringly shot, because it's awful.
It's the framing of it all – very beautiful, very above it all. The physical beauty and flawlessness of the actors just serves to heighten those choices even more and make the situations seem almost aspirational times, or somehow not as horrific. US!Debbie is dressing like she's older and getting prayed on by guys, and thinking she likes it, then getting older and more beautiful and getting tangled up with all these romances; UK!Debbie is wearing hoop earrings and a chavvy jacket with her hair scraped back, looking fucking miserable and at her wits end at having to play mother to all these fucking adults in her life.
#really got off the point there but yeah#uk debbie my beloved <3#and i'm not trying to say that everything's all happy and sunny in us shameless but it's just undeniably more glam imo#shameless us#shameless uk#shameless#ian gallagher#debbie gallagher#uk tv#british tv#mine#ask

well students,
i really thought we might get have a nice quiet weekend without the resident wannabe-queen-bees trying to make a play for the kingdom. but here we are with grassy checking in for duty posting their harangue against the 'opinions everyone is entitled to, but cling to the pr angle and isn't it weird...'. normally i write this fool off to another wannabe-mean-girl who thinks they're doing something while no one actually cares about them. but, they've made posts policing this fandom (and me, but i'm more focused on the fandom) and i feel the need to share my piece. since everyone is entitled to their opinion and all.
this person made an account to purely give attention to the 'delulus' they can't stand and call out 'bad behavior'. yes, those delulus are fucking insane and need to be called out; but isn't what you're doing giving them the attention they want? it's all you talk about. this constant back and forth, launching thought turds to try start a fandom war is played out. but now you are going after the people who think this might be pr and lumping them in with the crazies? i hope you are including yourself with the crazies, because you sure are one. everyone is entitled to their opinion, right? just not these people who are discussing a celebrity's relationship on their blogs or in group chats. and probably not my opinion when you read this (hi!) and start using terms you don't understand to call me names. imo you are trash just like the rest of them. you and your friends are deeply concerned about those group chats, aren't you? odd. but i digress.
why do you care so much what these mods think, when by your own accord, they aren't harming anyone or sending nasty notes or hate? sorry, i added that last part, but it is implied by your other posts. you spend so much time fighting to confirm a marriage that isn't yours. you give the 'delulus' airtime time and time again. are you that bothered by people disagreeing with you? and why does it automatically have to be jealousy if someone doesn't believe the bill of goods they are being sold? fyi, seeing the awkwardness or plot holes is not confirmation bias. maybe these fans are trying to grapple with the upset of their favorite actor not living up to ideals he has claimed to hold. maybe they are just trying to continue to enjoy his projects without associating her in them. we do not have to bring her into absolutely every conversation about him, but both dumb ass 'teams' sure try. and yes, his wife is plenty problematic. she may not have directly said the horrible things her friends have and then tried to throw (at least one of) those friends under the bus, but you know what is said: when someone sits down at a table with three nazis, and if they don't call them out, there are four nazis at the table.
so what's the real reason for your constant vitriol and desperate attempt to make people 'see the truth'? why are you fighting so hard for a relationship that isn't yours? do you, just like those 'delulus', think you'll get some big prize for being his biggest defender? you don't want to have genuine conversation with anyone, you just want to argue your point of view time and time again. you want everyone to see things through your lens and agree with your confirmation bias.
yes, you, your friends, and the delulus all just love to police the fandom. i thought it was a joke when i was told about the constant policing, but here you all are, over and over, day after day. telling people what to think, telling people what to post, cruising around tumblr to comment on posts that have nothing to do with you. for what? i'm starting to believe the rumblings that you all are part of the plot to advance a certain narrative and keep the nunemployed at the forefront of the discussion. i can't prove it, but again, it's rumored.
i'll close with some words you might recognize, grassy.
these two people do not know you. they don’t care how you feel about them. you will likely never meet or know them in your lifetime. therefore it is really weird to INSIST you are right about certain things happening in their lives and/or behind the scenes when absolutely none of his fandom knows anything beyond what he presents to us.
think about it for a while. why do you care so much if someone doesn't believe this narrative? are you getting paid for this? because if not, it is very strange to be this invested in someone else's marriage. maybe you are jealous because you aren't married. i don't know. but jealousy is your go to.
from the archives: you once told people they would be accepted by you and your ilk if they admitted they were wrong. that announcement and offer gave very strange, cult leader- like vibes. so fucking odd. so here's this -if you can admit you're just a bitch who wants tumblr notoriety (HA) and has an axe to grind, we'll accept you. there's no prize for being an asshole online. ce will never care if you were his greatest warrior on the world wide web. you're just another asshole existing on the same coin with the others and think you are better than everyone else.
i will definitely be using tags on this. i will continue to use them. and as you say: most people are doing no harm. they are discussing things in private chats, but i understand that you all are so upset about not being invited. i promise, being honest with yourself will set you free.
and grassy? shove your dollar store, rip off musing up your ass.

Review: Hasbro Marvel Legends Wolverine and Marvel's Logan
Introduction:
Hasbro, Inc. or originally named as Hassenfeld Brothers, is an American multinational toy manufacturing and entertainment holding company founded on December 6, 1923 by Henry, Hillel and Herman Hassenfeld and is incorporated and headquartered in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Marvel Legends is one of Hasbro's action figure line based on the characters of Marvel Comics, initially produced by Toy Biz since 2002, then by Hasbro in the beginning of January 1 2007. In this review, I feature you on Deadpool & Wolverine line which there're 3 variant figures that is; Deadpool, Wolverine and Headpool with Marvel's Logan but... I will only review Wolverine and Marvel's Logan. Both figure is packed with black colored boxart in overall with window box that reveals the whole contents packed inside the blisters, then below the window there's a large printed logo of "Marvel Studios" "Deadpool & Wolverine" movie with Hasbro and 14+ logo on the bottom, while the upper left corner got "Marvel Legends" logo, left is warning sign and the character's names on the right side which printed in red with white frame. The rear part is showing black colored box with the respective character's artworks, figure informations, and Indonesian's safety info sticker and importer. In Logan's case, the box was meant to feature Headpool as the top billed figure and Logan as his bonus accessories which, kinda awkward to actually treat a fully articulated figure as accessories but... I'm not even going to review headpool himself, since I will only focus on Logan accessories lol. Okay, going to unbox this two!
Contents:
Both Wolverine and Logan comes with their main figure, they're included with 2 pair of hands in total. Wolverine also comes with with 1 interchangeable head sculpt. Although for Logan, his figure was supposed to be the accessories but, I omitted the Headpool figure.
Character introduction:
James "Logan" Howlett, also known as Wolverine, is a Canadian class 3 mutant. His mutation granted him a number of animalistic attributes including three retractable razor sharp claws on each hand, and heightened senses, which allowed him to track people through scent and sound. He also has superhuman strength, reflexes, stamina and highly developed accelerated healing abilities, allowing him to heal injuries almost instantly, while also rendering him agelessly immortal. He is usually depicted being a tall angry fellow with contentious hair and muscular proportions, in his movie incarnation he has always been played by Hugh Jackman. The actor also played several Wolverine variants as well. In this variant, he's known as the worst wolverine due to his neglections of not being wanted to be part of the X-Men and instead chose to drink alcohol in bars. One night, while he was out getting drunk, the "humans" attacked the X-Mansion and killed the mutants, including the X-Men. Consumed by his rage and grief, Logan went on a killing spree, turning everyone against the X-Men and earning him this epitaph. Well, this was meant to be a reversed achievements of this Wolverine since he let down his entire world instead of being a hero in the past but, after meeting Deadpool from Earth-10005, things changed drastically as he finally earned being the best Wolverine instead. Although imo, all Wolverine variants are the best, including the short king and the crucified one.
Wolverine:
In this figure, Logan The Wolverine is donning his trademark comic book yellow spandex. Which took 24 years for Hugh Jackman to finally wear this. For a glimpse it looks really classic and very homage to his comic version but, stylized to make the suit more modern like every movie adaptations. You can see there's many crafted clothing details on his suit which made the suit looking armoric and a bit distant to be called spandex, his suit consists of full yellow suit with some blue and black colors, black and yellow hooded mask, blue colored shoulder pads with black and yellow trim, black and blue colored gauntlets with yellow trim, yellow belt with some black and red colored X-Men logo with black border on the buckles and blue colored boots with black trim. He also got his adamantium retractable claws colored in gray instead of shiny silver. His claws were made to be slightly different, which the claws have sculpted garment holes from his gloves, these holes allows him to retract his claws out of without tearing them apart and reducing the pain of retracting from the skin. However, despite looking great there's always inconsistencies in this figure as in the movie Logan never wear his hoodie mask until the last fight with hundreds of deadpools, and by that time his suit was already torned badly after his two fights with deadpool. While this figure is showing his suit in clean and perfect condition, I know this was inaccurate but, I think this figure was based on either concept art or something from other promotional merchandises. I don't really mind on this, I'll take it like this is how he fully armed with his yellow spandex which it's still cool for me but, if hasbro include him with alternate sleeveless arms that would be great but, it'd probably increasing the price for standard hasbro figure like this.
Logan:
This one is his casual wear version, where he wears rather odd and bland colored getup such as solid bright gray jacket, dark gray checkered dirty white colored shirt with gray tanktop underneath the shirt, light brown belt, cream colored rugged pants and his wolverine black and blue boots as his shoes. One of his jacket pocket got partial exposed blue colored wolverine gloves, meaning that this Logan actually brought his yellow spandex for him to wear. The figure reused several body parts from his leather jacket version such as his underneath shirt with tanktop, his rugged pants but, the belt was altered with simple looking buckles instead of native indian chief head belt like in the past releases. And lastly, his flesh hands with claws. The only thing new in this figure is his head, jacket and shoes, this version of Logan only appeared very briefly, thus made him less memorable nor iconic in the movie. They could have instead make someone else but, probably it's just for a simple recycle cash grab for promoting the movie. However, I can tell this version of Logan won't sell as much as his yellow spandex one.
Articulations, materials and accessories:
Both figure articulation points consisted movable head, ab-crunch on the torso, arms; butterfly joints on the shoulders, double jointed elbows and wrists, legs; thighs, double jointed knees and ankles. On yellow spandex body, his belt is a separate part which you can hardly rotate it due to being tight fit. His shoulder pads are not movable at all since they're glued with large bump on his shoulders. His gauntlets however is separate pieces but, they're glued to his arms so, they're not rotatable nor removable. However, you can still remove them by using heat gun or hot water, with this you can probably attach the bare arms from his tanktop version. For casual wear body, since he got rubber jacket, his movability can be limited due to the material's issue obstacling some articulations, you can see that his relaxed position arms appeared to be still a bit flare out due to his jacket bulks out the underside of his arms. Both figures were made from hard and durable plastics and rubbery plastics for some parts like shoulder pads, X-men belt, jacket and his claws. So you got nothing to worry about this figure if they fall. Most of Wolverine and Logan's accessories are their alternate pair of hands, both of them comes with a pair of hands that has no retractable claws. Wolverine is given with right fist hand and left with slightly open splayed hand, while Logan is all fistful hands. Also, sorry for the pathetic pose on Logan figure because I cannot think of a perfect epic pose for him since in the movie itself, this Logan appeared to be a heavy drinker so I used another hands for him to recreate that drinking poses.
Head Sculpt (HS):
Wolverine comes with his hooded masked on hs, which the black pointy ears is shaped like a bat ears, this black cowl part dominates mostly his front face, while the overall upper and rear head that connects to his suit is yellow. His front mask was made from soft rubber material and has exposed mouth part which painted flesh with slight beards and his eyes are painted white. However, I find it funny to see his side jaws being cleaner than his unmasked nor his casual wear hs, his masked face is like a stunt double face instead of Hugh Jackman's face. His alternate head is Hugh Jackman Logan's head in his neutral expression, his head is shown he has spiky messy hair that slightly pointy on both sides and... pompadour like bangs. When I looked his head on the side, I cannot unsee him as Suneo like hairstyle. The same goes for his casual wear hs but, his face is shown to be more rugged and angrier than the alternate yellow spandex one. Which is better suited for his unmasked version of yellow spandex since he looks spot on to one of Hugh Jackman's photo as Wolverine. Both hs were made from hard plastics material while his hair was made from hard rubber plastics material. With his unmasked head however, his neck was supposed to be slightly exposed rather than fully covered but, I think that's kinda unnecessary since people won't even bother with it. Since the casual wear used his leather jacket torso so, his neck appeared to be bigger than the yellow spandex one.
Body comparisons:
Body comparisons:
Comparing both figures, the casual version appeared to be chunky due to his thick wear. Whereas the yellow spandex looks sleeker despite their armoric feel. Their heights are the same however, depending on what head you're using they can be vary; the casual wear hs he appeared to be tiny bit taller due to his head sits a bit higher than his unmasked head. One thing that bothers me is the casual wear despite being thicker on his getup but, part of his exposed body is chunkier compared to his yellow spandex body. Notable part is his exposed neck like I mentioned earlier and his hands which appeared to be buffed as well than the gloved hands. Their shoes/boots are the same but, oddly painted differently. The yellow spandex boots straps are black colored and his soles are blue with black borders. While the casual wear, some straps are left unpainted but, their soles are fully black.
HS comparisons:
Comparing to past releases Logan HS, they're all spot on to Hugh Jackman's likeness. The yellow spandex hs is a bit oval compared to the rests while the casual wear version, his front nose seems a little shorter than the others. However, it surprised me to see side by side both hs (unmasked & casual) colors are very identical, including his hair. I saw in several reviews the casual wear one appeared to have more darker hair color and another thing is I also saw someone put casual wear hs into yellow spandex appeared to have loose ball joint which the head spins instead of being fit. I guess I was lucky enough to get them in perfect color and fitting joints. It is interesting that, despite being a neutral expressions they got their own uniqueness so, they're not just simple face reuse since there's a little expressions shown on them. The Amazon one is completely neutral expression, the jacket one is shown to have a little smirk, the unmasked yellow spandex is serious but, with sadder looking eyes and his casual wear looks angrier which more fitting for his unmasked body. The 2 new hs were made to have more fleshy skin tone compared to the past releases. I did not include the old man Logan in here since his hs are entirely different due to be made into older version.
Swaps:
All head swaps are surprisingly perfect for this 2 new hs despite their slight different skin tone. However, the past releases hs somehow looks a little off with yellow spandex body but, on the contrary they looked much better with the new casual wear body.
Thoughts:
I never been a Marvel Comics fan in my life but this one is an exception for me. The movie did real justice on this Logan, despite the inconsistency of this figure I'm very happy with how he turned out to be great. This Wolverine became one of my favorite figure of this year but to be frank, these 2 hs of Hugh Jackman is the only reason why I bought both figures. I usually prefered Bandai S.H.Figuarts better over Marvel Legends and I know Bandai also made their own Wolverine figure but, without unmasked head is instant no for me. My only complaint is the yellow spandex figure's paintapp suffers easy paint chip which in some certain pose, I noticed there're paint chipping on the blue part of the arms so, watch your six if you're planning to make something like crossed arms pose. Other than that, he looks pretty clean although he appeared to be a bit too bright since the movie suit got their own finishing effects even in the very first scene of the yellow spandex. But, you get what you paid for unless you want a perfection.
Thank youu for reading!😁🙏🏻

What do you think about the whole situation that Noah (and Finn) don’t act very well their characters?
I honestly think they are not bad, obviously Will had few scenes in s3-4 but I think he is still good and that in s5 he will have fantastic scenes.
Imo all the actors of ST are on the same level of acting. Millie is not bad for me, but many people praise her and say she’s always great. But she only screams or cries in most cases. Maybe the only actors who played their characters perfectly from the beginning are Sadie, Gaten, Winona and David.
Many people say Noah is a bad actor only because they want to hate on him online, before that people were praising him for season 4, he's a great actor in my opinion and Finn is a good actor too, objectively all of the main cast in stranger things are good actors!
The best actors in my opinion are probably Sadie and Gaten but it doesn't mean the others are bad, I also think all of them play their characters perfectly and made their character theirs in part, especially the kids because they grew up playing those roles so they had a strong input in how their characters reacted to stuff... and I also think the Duffers used their input to write them at the same time and let them have a bit of creative liberty like letting them improvise some scenes...
They are part of creating the characters at this point...with the writers!

ok quick thoughts, spoilers behind the cut.
Pros:
Halle. HALLE. H a l l e. Her voice, her face, her mannerisms. They took what made Ariel special in the animated movie and built on it and she was the perfect person to pull it off.
Her beauty was distracting.
So glad they finally got a singer for a live action, I couldn’t take another B&B autotuned disaster.
Made me want to get to the nearest rock and play mermaid ngl.
I had my doubts with Jonah but he did a great job with Eric, played the shy, kinda awkward potato prince charming to perfection. Loved that they expanded his backstory and his interest in adventure and the sea. Also A+ for the movie knowing he had a white shirt on while surrounded by water and using every chance it had to drench him.
Eric still being caring and worried about Ariel even under Ursula’s spell? 10/10 no notes.
He came to chew bubblegum and be dreamy and he was all out of bubblegum.
Halle and Jonah’s chemistry was insane, I need them to do ten movies making eyes at each other.
Seriously the movie could have been 2 hours of them interacting in that library and it would have been money well spent.
or just two hours of them being cute smol and tol in a boat idc
TRUE LOVE INDEED
Can’t wait for this movie to be out in D+ so I can reblog all the gifs.
Part of Your World and all reprises were ofc gorgeous. Vanessa’s Trick is haunting and exactly what one would want for a siren song. For the First Time is gorgeous and underrated, felt very Broadway-esque. Eric’s song was corny but in a good way.
The rest of the songs are adequate but are not as good as the original ones.
Gotta said, song aside, the Kiss the Girl scene was more endearing in this version. When she helps him figure out her name?
Melissa was good as Ursula and made the character her own, though I think she was not as scary as she could have been. Better than I expected, though.
The actress that plays Vanessa knew she had 5 minutes to make an impression and used them to the fullest. Delightful.
Cons:
The CGI felt unfinished and so did the color grading/lighting. I edited all the movie images in this post (just played with the saturation and the contrast) and I’m mediocre at best. HIRE TUMBLR EDITORS, DISNEY.
Halle deserved to wear more outfits, I can't believe Disney missed an opportunity to sell more dolls. Would have given her a dress for each day on land and the water dress. Mouse, I thought you liked money.
we could have had it all
Wanted more of her sisters tbh. And less Triton, Javier phoned it in imo. I know Triton and Ariel’s relationship is an important part of the original movie but idk if it was his half assed acting or me wanting more of the sisters, but I wasn’t moved.
Flounder's weird character design was saved by his stellar voice actor and Sebastian grew on me, he was hilarious. Scuttlefina was tolerable but gosh she’s always playing the same character, stop casting her in everything.
Less I say about Scuttlebutt the better. Kids are probably gonna love it, though.
The ending was kinda weird? It felt rushed and the battle with Ursula was disappointing. Which is a surprise because the OTHER stormy scene at night was wonderfully done.
Up to Ursula taking Ariel back to the ocean it felt really cohesive but the second Triton appears to save her it was like they were trying to speed things up and it got... weird.
Didn’t mind Ariel being the one that killed Ursula, after everything she put her through.
Cannot believe the movie robbed us of Jonah screaming “I lost her once, I’m not gonna lose her again!”
Overall it was a well paced (up to the finale), entertaining, charming movie. Despite its faults, the only Disney live action I want to rewatch (outside MAYBE Cinderella).
8/10 Justice for the foam dress.

Thoughts on Bridgerton S3
I'M JUST RANTING OKAY I've only seen part 2 once and these are just my thoughts and feelings I am gonna throw here and delete later when I probably change my mind after rewatching?? I just gotta rant😭
Penelope was so gracious and understanding and forgiving and I felt she deserved, in many moments, to be rightfully more upset, more vindictive, more fiercely witty and proud. Though I do LOVE all the things getting resolved and solved and brought to light and happy endings (I actually do love it), the journey there for me was missing a healthy and (imo) realistic dose of female rage. Just for the dramaaa come on. All the other drama going on here and Penelope is 'grateful for your counsel?' bfr. I'll show you grateful for your counsel by hating on it! She can show everyone her heart AND her teeth. She is more than capable and I thought that her character was reduced too much in the last four episodes. Penelope I want you to have everything, including your full range of emotion and humor and wit. Drink more w/ Madame Delacroix okay?? And with Lady Danbury.
I feel like my husbandColin was weirdly sidelined? I'm actually quite grateful for Part1 Colin, because I haven't landed anywhere yet with Part2 Colin. I knew he was jealous, I knew he was always going to forgive her...and we all knew he loved her....so the conflict/tension between them was not as interesting- for me! Just for meee. And stupidly drawn out. FOR MEEEEE. He had taken so many 'gallant' steps in his relationship with Penelope so when their wedding day and night and subsequent honeymoon days arrived and he was stuck in that attitude I was so unmoved. Don't play with me, Colin. Go worship your wife.
I JUST WANTED ANOTHER PURE VIOLET MOMENT! OF ANY KIND! Like before/about her dance with Marcus come oonnn! This is Violet! Please for the love. Also give me a convo with her and Penelope! Just one real one?? Damn. Her resolution with Francesca was alright? I guess. I do love that she isn't perfect with all of her kids, esp her daughters. But I feel they planted a lot of stuff for her as a mother and as a woman wanting to 'tend to her garden' you know? And it fell awkwardly for me. My favorite Bridgerton forever though.
HATE HATE HATE that Colin went to Cressida's house to make things worse trope. Seen it before. Didn't like it then and I don't like it now. AND he was forgiven so quickly. Absolutely not. DO NOT GO INTO ROOMS ALONE WITH ANYONE ANYMORE COLIN BRIDGERTON UNLESS IT IS UR WIFE PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME SLASH MY SCREEN. Go home to your wife and fix it there before you try to be all heroic outside of it okay. I will shave your head. I think I need Daphne.
Dear Eloise, you don't know what it is to be a friend, to have a friend, or even to lose a friend. Maybe I'm interpreting it wrong, maybe I don't care idk. But we start the show humanizing Cressida, bully since season 1 episode 1, THROUGH Eloise. BUT WHEN IT CAME TIME FOR THE FRIENDSHIP TO MEAN SOMETHING TO EITHER OF THEM Eloise willfully gave up, walked away, ran to the comfort of her privilege with her family and way-too-understanding friend. HOW DID WE CHAMPION SO MANY WOMEN ONLY TO ABANDON THIS THING W/ Cressida at the end as she was literally sent away alone.
Lady Danbury complaints similar to Violet. She is usually a more prominent player, so when she wasn't this season, well, I missed her and wanted anything more about her. But! Love her all the same.
HOW DARE THEY throw Kanthony back and forth all weirdy like that. Kate is here, just let us have Kate. And her lil loving husband. Come oooonnn. Three babies at the end and none of them Kate's😭 And Violet was overwhelmed and they didn't get to have another moment?? A lot of off-screen moments are told to us and we just get to believe whoever says whatever. Every actor here has shown they have skills for show-don't-tell productions! All those beautiful eyes! I just am feeling upset about the random use of this gorgeous couple. EVEN ANTHONY, Viscount and eldest brother of them all just walks away at one point when Colin is obviously needing more of him. Whatever.
Why why why did we have an original song PLUS an orchestral cover of it for both to be so unused??? Tori Kelly's song is so wedding-coded and so romantic and earnest. But it didn't make an appearance for Polin at all. Not at their wedding, not in their home, not in the carriage, not anywhere...
Maybe unpopular opinion but I hated "Yellow" being the wedding song. First see the point above and then please please just remember how much Penelope did to distance herself from that fucking color and the horrible memories of it. NOW! IF COLIN HAD MENTIONED IT SOME WAY OR WHATEVER THEN SUUUURRREEE keep the song. HOWEVER. EVEN THE WEDDING WAS NOT YELLOW, HER FAMILY WASN'T IN YELLOW, WE DIDN'T TALK ABOUT IT AT ALL WHY IS IT THE FUCKING WEDDING SONG WHEN THERE ARE MANY OTHER OPTIONNNNSSSSS WHYYYYY (idc why, I just hated it, even if I did cry).
Benedict has been cute and boring for far too long and that did not change for me in this season. TWO BRIDGERTONS with queer representation in an already huge season with so many storylines going on, I wish we could've celebrated it better. Amongst the thousands of other things that were being celebrated, Benedict has still been separated from them in weird ways.
Not a big point, just an interesting one. But where did Debling go? He just effed off to the wilderness? We spent a lot of time with him (and Cressida) in the first four eps.....and then he was gone.....okay.
Charlotte, I love you. You should know that first. But man you love to crash a party, and a wedding, and I just feel like you should've at least killed someone by now with all these theatrics. Even for Charlotte, I felt she was strangely incorporated into this last half of the season. She and Penelope are technically equals in many many ways- BUT WE NEVER GOT TO SEE THAT WIT AND BANTER PLAY OUT MORE WHYYYY
All in all. It's just my rantings. I was absolutely in love with the first four episodes. There was something so fairytale about it and it was so romantic. So, yes, I was disappointed in part 2 on the initial watch, despite the many things I loved about it. There was a lot going on and, sadly, most did not land for me. Yet.
It's a good show, I still love the show. I will be watching the show. Give me more of the show lol.
